We’re excited to announce the launch of the School Meals Program, a powerful initiative driven by Friends of Kingdom Champions International School in Odo Ona, Ibadan, and supported by the Centre for Enterprise Development and Action Research (CEDAR). This program is designed to address the critical issue of child malnutrition in Nigeria by providing students with access to a nutritionally balanced meal every week.
The Urgent Need
Malnutrition remains a serious concern in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Nigeria is significantly affected. UNICEF data reveals that over 2,400 children under five years old die daily due to malnutrition. Food insecurity, high food prices, and inflation are pushing the rates of undernourishment and child mortality upward. Many children also lack access to sufficient, nutrient-rich food, impacting their physical and cognitive growth and reducing their ability to concentrate in school.
Our Approach
Through this program, Friends in the diaspora have pledged to sponsor a weekly, balanced meal for the students and teachers of Kingdom Champions International School. This pilot project not only aims to supplement students’ nutrition but also to create income opportunities for local outgrowers, cooks, and logistics providers. CEDAR will manage the program’s implementation, coordinating food preparation, sourcing supplies, and ensuring timely meal deliveries.
Our Vision for the Future
This initiative is just the beginning. We envision expanding the program after evaluating the impact, with the goal of replicating it in other communities. Together, with the support of compassionate donors, we can build a sustainable solution to improve children’s health and learning outcomes in Nigeria.
Join us on this journey to make a difference, one meal at a time.
